St. Augustine is the oldest, continuously occupied European settlement in the continental United States. With this in mine, here is a small list of the many attractions: Castillo De San Marcos - A stone fortress constructed with blocks of coquina. Fountain of Youth - Claimed to be the landing place of Ponce de Leon in 1513. Lightner Museum Was originally the 300-room Alcazar Hotel built by Henry Flagler in 1888. Now the museum features collections of art, porcelain, Tiffany glass and much more. Oldest House - This National Historic Landmark is also known as the Gonzalez-Alvarez house. Believed to have been occupied continously since 1727, the house features authentic decor portraying the lifestyles of its owners through three centuries. Oldest Wooden School House - The school house was built during the first Spanish occupation. The schoolmaster and his wife lived upstairs, above the small classroom. Related artifacts and copies of school books are exhibited. St. Augustine Lighthouse and Museum - Visitors can climb the 219 steps to the top of the 1874 lighthouse for a panoramic view of the city.
