Brain Teaser for NASCAR racing fans:
Joliet is outside of Chicago, and best known as home to the Joliet prison. (My father, rest his soul, was a prison guard there at one time). Joliet is also home to an extremely popular place. This one is a whole lot more fun to visit. If you’re a Nascar fan, you’ve heard of, been to, or watched races at Chicagoland Speedway. If you look to the bottom of the map, you’ll see a marker for Chicagoland Speedway. You can scroll the map and zoom for a great view of the speedway. You can also see the nearby race tracks. Tip: You can also find Chicagoland Speedway as a clickable location marker in the right column. Like many of the large race tracks, Chicagoland Speedway is actually in Joliet, outside of Chicago.
Now, here’s the brain teaser: Can you think of any more tracks that take the name of the large city, but are actually in a smaller town outside of the larger city? If you try this with friends, make it clear that you get extra points if you can think of any that previously took the name of the larger city, and any that are no longer part of the Nextel or Busch series.
After you gave it some thought, you can find info about all current tracks on the NASCAR Nextel circuit at Speedway Hotels.
