If you are traveling through Sanford, you might avoid the motels on Hwy 1, by tring to make it to Southern Pines or Pinehurst. My 1986 Corvette overheated on my way to the Rockingham dragway, and I was forced to stay in Sanford. The accomodations were lousy to the point of being scary. (Overheating was typical of 1986 Corvettes - I lost 2 engines due to overheating).
